Focus on the Milk

The mission of Caffea is simple: to create the healthiest coffee drink in the world using only fair trade organic ingredients. One of the key distinctions between us and any other coffee shop is that all of our coffee is made fresh by hand. We decided to make our own, organic plant-based nut milks to be true to our mission statement and to make sure there were no additives in our drinks.

If you were to order an Almond Milk Latte from a traditional coffee shop that carries Almond Breeze, here is what you would be getting in that drink:

  • Burnt Coffee

  • Water

  • Almonds

  • Evaporated Cane Juice

  • Calcium Carbonate

  • Natural Flavors (whatever that means)

  • Potassium Citrate

  • Sea Salt

  • Sunflower lecithin

  • Gellan gum

  • Vitamin A Palmitate

  • Vitamin D2

  • D-Alpha-Tocopherol

When a product has ingredients in it that we can’t pronounce, we don’t want to serve it. Here is what our Organic Almond Milk Latte has in it:

  • Fair Trade Organic Coffee

  • Filtered Water

  • Organic Almonds

  • Organic Dates

  • Organic Pink Himalayan Sea Salt

  • Organic Spices

Producing the organic milk is labor intensive because we are creating it fresh every day, but we believe you’re notice the rich flavor immediately once you add the nut milk to one of our drinks.

When working with organic nut milks, we tested a wide variety of options including organic brazil nuts, organic peanuts, organic pine nuts, organic walnuts, organic chestnuts, organic pecans, organic almonds, organic cashews, organic hazelnuts and even organic rice. In the end we focused on three main favorites: organic almonds, organic cashews and organic hazelnuts. This is because of the flexibility and versatility we have with these nuts.

You won’t find us making health claims about our coffee. You are not going to get stronger, jump higher or be able to focus longer with our coffee. However, we do feel it is important to discuss all of the healthy benefits that come along with drinking nut milk versus dairy.

Organic Almond Milk

The consumption of alternative milk is on the rise in the US and almond milk is leading the charge. While eating almonds is ultimately better for you in the long run, drinking almond milk still gives you the same nutrients like riboflavin, vitamin A, B12 and D. Almond milk is cholesterol free, low in sodium and contains healthy, plant-based fats like omega fatty acids which are thought to be beneficial for people who suffer from diabetes.

There are a lot of good recipes for almond milk online and each recipe has its pros and cons. We would highly recommend you go out and try different recipes to find the right one for you. It was hard to develop our specific formula for almond milk because we needed to find a way to balance out the natural sugars that come along with coffee. When you try our organic almond milk cappuccinos and lattes, remember that a great deal of labor and experimentation went into to creating that taste profile.

Organic Cashew Milk

Cashew milk is interesting to make because the soaking process is much faster than for almonds and hazelnuts. Overall cashew milk doesn’t enjoy the broad popularity of almond milk, but it does have a loyal following. And cashews are a great source of protein, vitamins E and B and other minerals such as calcium, iron, zinc and copper.

Many consider cashew milk the thickest of all the nut milks, giving it a dairy-milk like consistency. We experimented with over 30 different recipes to get our organic cashew milk to have a creamy, velvety mouth feel. This allows us to pair the cashew milk beautifully with our fair trade organic coffee or perhaps blend it with some turmeric or ginger.

Organic Hazelnut Milk

Hazelnut milk is a great source of vitamin B1, B2 and B6, and is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which helps keep blood pressure and cholesterol in check. Hazelnut milk has a nuttier taste.

One of the best features of our organic hazelnut milk is that there is no need to sweeten it with dates because it pairs perfectly with our fair trade organic coffee. A favorite of the owner, hazelnut is the preferred milk we use for our organic salted caramel, mocha and mint chocolate chip. Nutella uses hazelnuts in their chocolaty spread, and we leveraged this nut to create a rich Mocha that people have never experienced before.
